President Muhammadu Buhari has denied ever accusing the United States of aiding insurgency in Nigeria or anywhere else.
Saying the reports in both local and international media are untrue, Buhari, through a statement his Senior Special Assistant on Media Femi Adesina said,  it was an unfortunate misinterpretation and distortion of his remarks at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) during his recent official visit to Washington DC.
He said, “I know the American people cannot support any group engaged in these crimes,”
He explained that the regrets Buhari expressed at USIP about the impact of the application of the Leahy Law on Nigeria’s war against Boko Haram and terrorism could not be construed as an indictment of President Barack Obama and the United States government.
Adesina said Buhari has nothing but the highest possible regard for Obama, the United States government, the people of the United States, their laws and institutions.
He described as very successful, talks with Obama, US Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, and other top officals of the government of the US
